About Centre Safe

Established in State College in 1975 as a grassroots effort by a small group of women, it has since expanded to providing services across Centre County. Among Centre Safe’s core values are to empower survivors of sexual violence, relationship violence, and stalking and to work toward the elimination of such violence.

Centre Safe offers free, confidential, and professional services for people who have experienced dating/domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking.

Keeping with their motto, Grit, Passion, and Service, The State College High School Girls Soccer Team continues their annual service off the field this 2021 season. Their annual campaign, When Soccer Becomes Greater, has engaged the team in community service the past several years when they have chosen an individual or organization to raise awareness, support, encouragement, and financial assistance.

This year’s When Soccer Becomes Greater organization is the Good Day Cafe.

Good Day Cafe was developed by Strawberry Fields Inc. in response to the 80% unemployment rate for people with disabilities. They sell coffee, espresso, tea, and various breakfast and lunch items. Every purchase helps support a job for a person with a disability. Please consider not only supporting the girls team in their fundraising efforts, but also supporting Good Day Cafe by visiting them as a customer. They are located at 286 W Hamilton Ave, State College, PA 16801

When Soccer Becomes Greater

Each year, the State High Girls Soccer team works to use our love of soccer to make a difference in our community.  This season, we are excited to be working with Centre Safe, also known as the Centre County Women’s Resource Center (www.ccwrc.org), to raise awareness and funds to aid in the fight against domestic abuse and sexual violence.  We invite you to join us in this effort by supporting the activities below.  We are all stronger when we STAND TOGETHER.

Goals for Good Fundraising Drive – Our players asked family and friends to pledge a donation for every goal we score over twenty-six games (involving both the JV and Varsity squads) or to make a one-time donation to support this effort.  So come on out to any game this season and cheer us on as we shoot for our ultimate goal of raising more than $7,500.

Money Raised:

$1,676 in one time donations

Pledges of $79.46 per goal

In School Awareness – In partnership with Centre Safe, we will be hosting an event/display in the high school to raise awareness about issues related to abuse; and to let State High students know what they can do to support survivors of abuse and to help eliminate domestic and sexual violence.

Centre Safe Celebration Game – On Saturday, October 6th, we will be wrapping up this year’s campaign with our final game of the Goals for Good Fundraising Drive.  Join us for a night filled with soccer, fun, food and something more as we announce our final fundraising total and celebrate Centre Safe’s work to empower survivors and eliminate violence!  JV kicks off at 5pm with the Varsity match to follow.  Wear purple to show your solidarity against domestic violence.
